Welcome to Worthy Mentoring!
Happy 2022 Worthy Community!
My name is Michael Edmonson, and I am the Co-Founder and CEO of Worthy Mentoring. I am so grateful to have all of you as part of the Worthy Community, and as welcome this new year, I wanted to take a moment to answer a few questions about our Empowerment Council and our mentor/mentee matches.
On our website, you were able to read my coming out story and my motivation to create and lead Worthy Mentoring. If you missed it, check that out HERE. Now I want to explain the tools we have created to ensure our mentors and mentees have an empowering mentorship!
1) What is the Empowerment Council?
The Worthy Mentoring Empowerment Council consists of activists using their platforms, skillsets, and professional backgrounds to uplift the entire LGBTQ+ Community. These council members provide Worthy Mentoring with the latest insights, news, and resources to empower successful mentor/mentee matches and strengthen the Worthy Mentoring platform and community.
2) What resources do you supply mentors and mentees to facilitate a successful mentorship?
First, we make sure that all of our mentors and mentees understand and agree to our Rules & Expectation Guidelines. These rules were created through our professional partnerships and establish the ground rules for Worthy Mentoring. Second, we offer quick access to Handbooks & Resources from our collaboration with groups like the Trevor Project and Whitman Walker Health, so that mentors and mentees can navigate common topics and questions with the most professional insights at their immediate disposal. Third, we have recruited a diverse Empowerment Council who will share advice, news, and a variety of resources relative to their professional background and experience. The Empowerment Council is designed to provide mentors and mentees with a wealth of information to explore and discuss together. Finally, we have compiled a listing of Crisis Hotlines so that mentors and mentees can quickly access them if a need arises.
3) I have a few questions before getting started.
Please email me directly, and I’ll do my best to answer any and all questions! My email address is help@worthymentoring.org.
I hope you enjoy reading these resources from our Empowerment Council members, and I also hope that you find Worthy Mentoring to be an uplifting and empowering tool as you navigate your journey in the queer community. Thanks for being a part of the Worthy Family 🏳️🌈
